Bad Flamingo - “The Fruit”
From somewhere in The USA, the mystifying duo known as Bad Flamingo return to the blog with their latest indie offering: “The Fruit.”
It’s been three years since we started featuring these bewildering sirens, and we still know very little about them; however, there has always been one consistent truth: Bad Flamingo possesses a sound like no other, which is made abundantly clear as soon as you press that play button.
“The Fruit” begins with a vibey electric guitar riff over the top of a 1980s-flavored digital rhythm. The vocal performance arrives with the deeper notes of a playful bass line and, all at once, that unmistakable Bad Flamingo character fills the entire sonic landscape.
As we’ve come to expect from these gals, additional layers of vocals harmonize and double the main delivery, with bonus guitar textures and ghostly pedal steel filling in the remaining spaces. This is most obvious across the refrain, letting the hook land in that dynamic, ear-worm territory.
Although the rhythm never deviates from its persistent groove, the gradual crescendo of additional elements allows “The Fruit” to be a song you’ll return to, again and again, likely hearing something new with each listen.
