Bad Flamingo - “Fast”

If we’ve learned anything from starting this blog, it is that the music of Bad Flamingo shall remain long after the Earth has disappeared. Today, the mystifying pair of sirens return to us with another aural enchantment: “Fast.”

Complete with the lo-fi vibes of an acoustic guitar and a thunderous pulse of stomping feet, the giant sounds of “Fast” make their way into your earholes. And by now you’ve surely become acquainted with the work of Bad Flamingo, but if you dwell beneath the proverbial rock, brace yourself for the spellbindingly seductive vocal stylings that won us over as fans the first time we heard them.

In true Bad Flamingo fashion, wide layers of vocals on the refrain juxtapose the intimacy of the verses. The duo also have a knack for utilizing sounds from indiscernible instruments that likely do not even exist on our plane of existence. Textures sweep in and out of the arrangement, providing a satisfying ebb and flow and leaving us with the prolific, cinematic sensation that we have come to expect from their sound.

Just beyond the midpoint, “Fast” captivates its audience with a magnificent bridge, offering a luscious sense of dynamic fluctuation, guaranteed to be one of the reasons you return for another spin. Ear candy comes by way of multiple layers of guitars and vocals, ultimately cultivating in a massive final chorus before the song retreats back to its initial lo-fi shadows.

If you’re familiar with the lore, you will know that Bad Flamingo provide very few details about themselves, as though their masks extend to cover their entire existence. They refer to themselves simply as ‘the one on the left’ and ‘the one on the right,’ and we urge you not to dig any deeper than that, for you shall only find eternal madness.
