Shannen Bamford - “Addicted”

Multi-instrumentalist Shannen Bamford has just released the stunning new dream pop track, “Addicted.” The song charts a poignant journey through heartbreak and reflection, opening to electric guitar layers that weave contemplative ascending lines. Light, ethereal synths delicately pad underneath, giving a breezy, yet thoughtful vibe.

As the song unfolds, more layers are thoughtfully applied, helping to build the intensity of emotion expressed in the track. A driving pulse is lent by the rich bass and, as we hit the halfway mark, drums further flesh out the groove. Acoustic guitar also provides a warm layer of texture. “Addicted” builds to a satisfying crescendo where an electric lead guitar solos with expressive finesse, bringing a vibe that is warmly reminiscent of Fleetwood Mac.

The vocals of Bamford are elegantly expressive, dreamy, and gentle as they guide the listener through the track. The whole performance is a delight to hear and is supported throughout by immersive, harmonising backing layers. With a distinctive twist, “Addicted” explores the depths of heartbreak. Bamford’s reflective lyrics highlight the internal battle of accepting responsibility for one’s own suffering, rather than placing the blame elsewhere. The song examines how compulsive it is to chase after euphoria, even when doing so may inevitably lead to pain.

About the track, Bamford offers: “I started to feel like I didn’t know who I was if I wasn’t in some kind of emotional turmoil… It just felt like a part of me, I was in a toxic cycle of putting myself into painful situations. Even in a good situation I had to find some way of making it anxiety inducing. It felt like I was addicted to pain, which ultimately inspired this song and the main hook. At its core, this song is a story of slowly losing someone and having your heart broken, but with the acceptance of it essentially being your own fault for putting yourself in a situation that you knew would cause you pain.”

Addicted” is a striking exploration of heartbreak, filled with effortlessly dazzling vocals and instrumentation. This relatable song will leave a lasting impression upon all who hear.
