Hazlett - “Bones Shake”

For the ninth time, Hazlett has brought his ‘indie ballroom folk’ to our blog. This time, the Australian-born, Sweden-based singer-songwriter brings us “Bones Shake,” the first single from his forthcoming EP.

At this point, we do not even need to press play on a Hazlett song before we make room for it on our site; we simply see his name appear in our submissions and begin writing. But we highly encourage you to drop whatever you’re doing and press play on “Bones Shake,” as it instantly invites a warm and intimate acoustic guitar performance into your ears. A subtle warbling effect gives the production a distinct, analog flavor, with wide, reverberating tones from a lead guitar gliding overhead.

And, of course, it would not be a Hazlett song without the wonderful cocktail of his signature layered vocals, the unmistakable trademark for his brand of indie folk. And while we could sit and listen to him all day, the harmony that arrives on the tail end of the first verse is what will ultimately keep us coming back to “Bones Shake” for multiple listens– it provides a magnificent sense of foreshadowing for Hazlett’s upper register on the refrain.

Hazlett has the unique gift of crafting music that contains all the bells and whistles of a commercially-polished production, yet every song still maintains the lo-fi, intimate intensity of a private performance. We truly believe that he is one of the greatest folk artists out there today and we have yet to hear a song of his that does not instantly become a favorite of ours. If you have not yet started following his musical journey, let “Bones Shake” be the moment that you begin.

About the track, Hazlett adds: “I think running away gets a bit of a bad name. I think it’s near impossible to clarify exactly where things went wrong or how to fix them when you’re sitting in the mess you made. Whether it’s time or distance, sometimes the further you get away the clearer it all becomes to piece things together and make your comeback.”

Stay tuned to the blog, as we will gladly feature all of Hazlett’s future releases, but feel free to follow him across the internet: Instagram Spotify | Facebook | X
