Laura Lucas - “The Atlantic”

Canadian-born, Australian-based singer-songwriter Laura Lucas is back on the blog with “The Atlantic,” a track from her forthcoming debut album, There’s a Place I Go.

We have been fans of Lucas since our blog’s inception, when we first heard the folk prowess on her single, “Wake Up, Breathe In;” therefore, we sincerely could not wait to press play on “The Atlantic.” You will be delighted to know that her raw, intimate sound remains intact, initially entering the ears through a soft wave of glistening guitar.

From there, Lucas’ vocal arrives, just as authentic and vulnerable as fans might expect, letting each line of lyrics nestle into the hearts of listeners as though the only truth left in the world. The subject matter is nostalgic and emotional– Lucas shares that “This really is a song for my inner child… I found so much healing in writing the lyric ‘I was a kid.’ It’s a simple phrase, but it flicked a switch in my brain and helped me release a lot of misplaced shame.”

Over the course of “The Atlantic,” elements are added and removed to offer a divine sense of ebb and flow to our overall listening experience. From the gentle pulse of the rhythm, to the glorious swells of digital artifacts and vocal layering, this song will sink its many hooks into you, leaving you no choice but to return to it, over and over again.

There’s a Place I Go is due for release this November via Nettwerk, but we have a feeling that Lucas will be throwing us more singles beforehand. Until then, slip into “The Atlantic” wherever you get your music and connect with Laura Lucas here: Spotify | YouTube | Instagram | TikTok | Facebook
