Modern Nomad - “Where Do I Go?”

Baltimore-based singer-songwriter Tom McLean, aka Modern Nomad, has just released the lo-fi psychedelic pop-rock jam, “Where Do I Go?

In the same vein as Drugdealer and Tame Impala, McLean has packed his song with ethereal bouts of ear candy. The intro begins as though you’re being abducted by aliens (not that we know what that sounds like, ahem), but it successfully establishes the vibe for the rest of the track. The jangly guitars that arrive shortly thereafter do a fantastic job at showing The Beatles’ influence on McLean’s craft, and the muted bass notes only further establish this notion.

McLean’s vocal is very chill and soothing as it enters your ears, with lyrics that take all who hear on a “soul-searching journey through life's crossroads.” And if there’s one thing we like, it’s a song with a heavy dose of introspection, which you will find available here in droves. The horns that have been added are a very fine choice to expand the production, and when you combine them with the mid-tempo rhythm, it makes for a great tune to blast on an afternoon drive.

A grand appeal for us with “Where Do I Go?” is how it does not pretend to be something it’s not– the lo-fi and gritty production suits the tune much better than any commercial polish ever could. This track is the lead single from Modern Nomad’s upcoming album, For the Love Of.
