Plastic Harpoons - “Meet Me in the Middle”

For the first time since the release of their debut LP, So-Cal-based indie band Plastic Harpoons return to the blog with “Meet Me in the Middle,” a marvelously chilled, folksy rocker.

The track dreamily fades in before bursting into its fully fleshed out arrangement, primarily consisting of the three most important ingredients when it comes to baking any indie tune: guitar, bass, and drums. There’s a distinctly vintage atmosphere here, with a psychedelic-infused air about the song, due in part to the thick compression on the rhythm section and the swath of reverb across the chords.

Of course, a great deal of this vintage vibe permeates from the vocal performance, which appears to be utilizing a warm tube saturation for the entirety of the track. On the hook, additional layers of vocals rush in and swell around the lead, creating a truly magnificent soundscape that should deeply resonate with fans of Kurt Vile, Courtney Barnett, and Houndmouth.

There’s some vibrant lead guitar that tastefully dazzles the listener between the verses, as well as some reverberated, ethereal notes that perfectly suffuse the song’s ending section as they soar through the production. In its nearly five minutes of runtime, “Meet Me in the Middle” will grab you by the waist and lead you down a gentle path of introspection, all the while enchanting you with its three-part harmonies.
