Vintz Desert - “Frozen”

We first learned of Maryland-based singer-songwriter Vintz Desert when he delivered “Calico Dress,” and we’ve been awaiting his return ever since. Today, that wait is over upon the arrival of his new release, “Frozen,” a wonderfully folksy offering to this world of music.

Produced by Alexandr Vatagin (Lowswimmer), do not be surprised when the vibrance of this track completely enraptures you. The song immediately captures the listener’s interest via the warm and intimate sounds of a sublimely finger-plucked acoustic guitar. These delicate notes carve a path for Vintz to begin his tender vocal performance, elegantly delivering the lyrics with precision and a soft vibrato– at times, almost a whisper, as though he is filling his listeners’ ears with a secret.

On the refrain, the arrangement is widened with the arrival of deep, round notes from a bass, as well as additional layers of vocals that flood the production with a dreamlike demeanor. Soft keys and strings imbue the song with a glorious pad, filling the remaining sonic space, yet letting “Frozen” maintain its intimate character. For the final set of choruses, the track reaches the peak of its crescendo, incorporating some distant percussion that urges the music onward.

The lyrics are quite personal and profound and we almost feel like we’re eavesdropping on Vintz’s emotions as we listen to his tale of heartbreak. However, when you counter the subject matter with the cinematic and uplifting instrumental, it adds a distinct sense of balance, leaving the listener hopeful in its catharsis. We’re hoping that “Frozen” resonates just as deeply with you as it did with us, but you will never know unless you press that play button.
