Lowswimmer - “Can’t Be By Myself” (ft. Novo Amor, Squirrel Flower)

Some of us have spent years listening to the work of Bristol-based Ed Tullett, aka Lowswimmer, and not even realized it. For the past decade, he has been writing, producing, and contributing to the music of such talent as Hailaker, Lissom, and one of our personal favorites Novo Amor. So when we received “Can’t Be By Myself,” we dove right in.

This track is a collaboration between Lowswimmer, Squirrel Flower, and Novo Amor and pressing play will allow the listener to embark on quite an intimate and dreamy experience. The subject matter here is the delicate display of the fear of being alone and the awareness that in order to achieve personal growth, a person needs people. This is all wonderfully put into its proper place through a remarkable falsetto and, quite frankly, the lyrics could be about anything and we’d still give him all of our money.

The soundscape within “Can’t Be By Myself” is vast and ethereal, deep enough to get lost inside, but warm enough that you will want to move in and live there forever. Orchestral synths fill a great portion of the sonic space and it is immediately clear that Tullett has spent much of his life honing his craft and carving out his niche. Once the vocal harmonies arrive, it’s difficult to ignore the idea that their purpose serves the idea behind this need for companionship, while also gloriously widening out the entire production. If you do not already own headphones, you’re going to want to purchase a pair in order to let this track fully consume you, and you’ll also want to show it to all of your friends.
