Vintz Desert - “Calico Dress”

Vintz Desert is an indie folk artist who recently landed in our stack of submissions, bringing us to the realization that how we feel when we listen to a song will greatly impact how hard the music resonates with us. At first, “Calico Dress” sounded like any other folk song, with a softly plucked acoustic guitar setting the stage for the vocals to appear. And though we are without a sheet of lyrics for this track, when we heard “So love me or kill me– just set me free,” it resonated very deeply and we simply had to get this onto the blog.

When Vintz Desert pitched “Calico Dress” to us, he mentioned the harmonies that would arrive at the second chorus. And though we wish they had been a surprise, we can assure you that they are well worth the wait. Keep in mind that this song is perfectly brilliant up until this point, with moments of gentle humming to fill the space between delicate lines of lyrics– so raw that it begs any listener to recall the gritty textures imbedded into our hearts ever since the world received For Emma, Forever Ago. And as we struggle to decide if this song is full of love or resentment, those fantastic harmonies arrive and we no longer care– we simply want more of it… And more of it we shall receive, as Vintz Desert has promised that an EP is soon to follow. Play this song, folks, and prepare to be moved.
