Bring the Hoax / Winchester Revival / More / Foreign Hands

It may be their band name and the name of their debut EP, but don’t be fooled. Bring the Hoax are a legit band whose cohesive indie rock sound is overflowing with “guys on stage with guitars” goodness. From dense, shimmery chords to chunky rhythms, this EP has plenty of variety to enjoy. Solid vocals are catchy without sounding overly commercial and fit the sonic character of the band perfectly. Standouts for me are “Jonestown” and “Down Below.” -Mark Grider

The Australian rock quartet Winchester Revival has you covered if you're searching for a vintage American rock vibe. Their most recent song, “Born For The Road,” is like a nostalgic flashback and... for me… they are “The Australian Heavy North,” for people who follow the underground indie scene. But what distinguishes Winchester Revival from other rock bands is their overt homage to vintage sounds, particularly in the lead guitar and vocals. The song has an entertaining structure and it will make you to picture it energizing a crowd during a live performance. If you like your classic rocks polished by a modern machine, this one is for you! -John Michie

Swedish group More have just released “Snowflake Supernova.” It is a welcome blast from the past. If you like the dark synth sound of the 1980s and long for New Order vibes, then this is a song for you. -John Michie

The single also contains a b-side titled “Alone.”

It’s been a minute since I listened to tons of really heavy stuff, so forgive me if this review doesn’t live up to how good this song is. I don’t have to be an expert in the genre to recognize a blisteringly good tune. Not that I feel the need to cred-check, but I own a few Killswitch Engage discs. Heck, I even have a KSE concert on DVD.

Ok. Foreign Hands have delivered the goods with “Tearing Down Your Reality.” Super tight riffing, sick tempo changes, loads of riffs, and an invigorating arrangement have me hooked. When the riff at 1:00 hits, my head starts moving involuntarily. I do like some shouting vocals, but I like “singing” a bit more. Just in time, the chorus hits at 1:20, with a phenomenal “sung” vocal that sends this song over the top for me. That’s the pay off. It’s the tension and release I crave. I don’t know much, but I think “Tearing Down Reality” by Foreign Hands is metalcore gold. -Mark Grider
