Ziv Aizenman - “Ma Le Thula”

Ziv Aizenman grew up surrounded by nature, whether in the African savanna or the Israeli Galilee. Her lead hit, “Ma Le Thula,” from the upcoming debut album, Love & Lost, guides us through loss to consolation in an African-inspired spiritual celebration.

The reason I am reviewing this song is because it contains a lot of strange, but beautiful noises. It is just incredibly imaginative, constantly changing and gradually expanding like a true epic. This track gave me goosebumps, to be honest. Foley noises, reverse noises, stereo delayed taps, wind chime-like sounds– all slowly unfold into brilliance. And through these sounds, there is the sensation of remembering a dream or memory. The lyrics are gently sung throughout by the lovely voice of Ziv, providing a genuine feeling of an occasion that altered someone's perspective on the world. The vocal keeps building into something that feels majestically uplifting. Warm guitar and synthesiser pads beautifully complement the vocal as the chorus begins. “Ma Le Thula” has hymn-like qualities. The rhythm change brought on by the clapping in the song's final section is just, plain excellence. This song has a distinct African feel and, in my opinion, these rhythmic variations are uncommon in Western music. This song is absolutely breathtakingly and lovely to its very core.
