Lindsey Sampson - “Gifted”

When she’s not playing with folk rock-band Visiting Wine, Lindsey Sampson flies solo, writing folk-infused indie rock bangers with hooks that pretty much take up immediate residence in your heart and mind.

She has just sent over her latest single, “Gifted,” for us to review and it is seriously one fine piece of indie music goodness. Lately, many of the songs we’ve been posting have been the perfect soundtrack for introspection and autumn drives down country lanes, but Sampson comes to us offering danceable melodies that are, at times, reminiscent of Sheryl Crow, though they would certainly be relevant for fans of Phoebe Bridgers or Soccer Mommy.

The storytelling aspect of the verses are perfectly juxtaposed with Sampson’s utilization of drawn out syllables in the choruses. And though she doesn’t do it often on this particular track, her falsettos are on point and seemingly effortless and we found ourselves waiting to hear each and every one of them. “Gifted” will make you feel good and (gasp) even motivated to get up and live your life, which can be a rare thing around here (points at self). This track is just as good as anything you’ll hear on modern top 40 radio and we will not be surprised if that’s where Sampson ultimately finds herself.

So, take a deep breath and turn it up; ‘you’re gonna be just fine’:
