“Rockinghorse” pulses softly with its hypnotic, meditative brush drums. Pushing us forward with a vivid sense of determination. It is the type of groove where you instantly imagine the landscape sliding past you as if looking out of the window of a train. Going somewhere, widescreen, inevitable and steady.
Beautifully played fingerpicked acoustic guitar anchors the composition in reflective, earthy warmth. But it is the electric guitar that really animates the sonic tapestry of the music. Nostalgic, texturally trippy, as if Nick McCabe is at the fretboard, it washes the horizon in an expansive, vivid, blooming wash of cinematic sound. It is simply a pleasure to get lost in the vibrant, fluid and serene tones of the playing.
Tommy Douglas Keenan delivers an inviting, almost conversational vocal. Quietly melodic, there is an ease in the storytelling delivery that is elegantly natural. It feels like he is not performing, just taking us on a journey with him into a playful world of wanderlust and relationships. Adding to the glow are introspective backing vocals. Floating, drifting like clouds and effortlessly immersive.
