Jordan Whitlock & Memory Spells
California’s Jordan Whitlock & Memory Spells have just released the opulent dream pop track, “Do You Think Of It Sometimes?”
“Do You Think Of It Sometimes?” is sparse, vast, gorgeous music. Unhurried from first to last note, vivid yet incredibly powerful. The song relies on the simple interplay of the heavenly vocals of Jordan Whitlock and reverbed, fingerpicked electric guitar to create a picturesque and immersive atmosphere.
It is an absorbing, ambient type of music that contains the resonance and depth of the whole of humanity. Something that is captured much in the same way as Sigur Rós, Sivan Levy or even Brian Eno. A soundtrack to wide open spaces, lonely walks, meditation, solstices, for scenery that could be real or imagined.
The beautifully intimate vocal can only be described as celestial. Wrapped in a wash of spacious reverb, it is a harmony rich sound you would expect to hear at the gates of heaven or during a spiritual experience.
The artists elaborate on the song’s meaning: “A hazy, nostalgic reflection on a fleeting moment shared between two people, wide-eyed, dreaming, with nothing planned and everything possible. The song drifts between memory and longing, asking whether that feeling still lives anywhere beyond the singer’s mind.”
“Do You Think Of It Sometimes?” is a widescreen, grand and immersive listen. The collaboration of Jordan Whitlock & Memory Spells culminates with the release of the album, This Is What It Feels Like, on April 9th.
