Basciville - “Love In The Time Of The State”
Irish brothers Cillian and Lorcan Byrne, aka Basciville, return to the blog with the vividly melancholic alt-rock track, “Love In The Time Of The State.”
Basciville have a knack for making something moving and original and relatable to the average man or woman on the street. Drawing on poignant sketches of everyday life. Pressures and trying to function in a system that feels empty. Presented as immersive, richly textured minimalist sketches of urban life. Basciville observe this all with an intelligent, warm and big yearning heart.
Every element in the song is meticulously placed, playing its part in creating what can only be described as emotional, atmospheric rock. Light and shade is balanced in an intimate dance that feels both friendly and epic. Some influences can be heard on close inspection. The tastefully hypnotic chiming electric guitar layers recall the melancholy of Radiohead. The elegant bass, Paul McCartney, and the rousing movement of the crescendos, Elbow and REM. The music is beautifully vivid, a gorgeous meditation, gently progressive and subtly innovative.
The vocal delivery is sublimely soulful, softly articulate and awash with empathy. Like listening to a master of the mysteries of the human heart that plots a course through life’s highs and lows. It shifts from reflective intimacy to soaring melodies that lift and fill your soul when you have lost your faith. It is a performance that is well honed and extraordinarily sincere.
The sure-footed, mature and resonant “Love In The Time Of The State.” is the title track of Basciville’s new album which is out today via Faction Records. Connect with Basciville: Bandcamp | Spotify | Soundcloud | Youtube | Instagram | Facebook
