The Sways - “Someday We Will Dream About Today”

Flagstaff, Arizona-based The Sways return to the blog with the wistfully bittersweet “Someday We Will Dream About Today.”

Judging by their previous release, “I Have Been the Moon,” I am starting to think these guys are the masters of hazy, sun-bleached magic. What strikes me about “Someday We Will Dream About Today” is that it has a really slinky groove hiding under those reflective, misty eyed acoustic guitars. You cannot help but be spellbound by the warm bass the pulses with an effortless, sensitive charm. It really is the secret engine of the track pushing this from just a track to something irresistibly infectious.

The rest of the arrangement is incredibly delicate. The gentle push of the drums, sunlit guitars, ‘80s-coloured arpeggiating synths, resonant piano and flute-like pads conspire to create a gentle current that floats you away into a meditative state.

The Sways vocally serve up, once again, an enchanting performance. From start to finish the vocals are tender and rich in really great, tight harmonies. It is the stuff of classic pop songs! It is a performance that seems unequivocally set on striking all the nostalgic notes that resonate within the human body. The same is true of the thoughtful lyrics. They paint an image that is deeply sentimental, evocative and poignant reflecting on how we may look back at our youth.

Catchy as hell and cooly quirky, this is definitely a song that lingers long after it has been played. “Someday We Will Dream About Today” is taken from The Sways self-titled five-track EP slated for release September 19th. Connect with The Sways: Spotify | Bandcamp | Instagram
