Sam Burchfield - “Holiday”
From Jasper, Georgia, singer-songwriter Sam Burchfield has just released the charming and reflective “Holiday.”
“Holiday” is a beautifully endearing track. Rich, precise, memorable and deeply gratifying. In many ways it holds the same sweet acceptance of maturity as John Lennon’s later work. Whether it is the sun-drenched, breezy acoustic guitars or the reflective, melodic optimism in the vocals, it has that same signature warmth and honesty. There is even something a little Beatles-esque in the chiming lead guitar motifs.
Timeless, yes… But… “Holiday” is no imitation– it is just authentic, classic folk pop. Burchfield’s voice is soulfully full of its own character. With a sensitive sense of quiet intimacy, it draws you in to the track with each heartfelt phrase.
The arrangement is deceptively simple. You can listen and effortlessly let the reflective sounds wash over you. Yet every element is carefully placed and rewards with each listen. The buoyant basslines, the percussive embellishments and staccato piano lines reveal themselves when you listen more closely.
“Holiday” is a quietly brilliant folk pop track. A Tender, enchanting testament of Burchfield’s songwriting craft. The track is taken from Sam Burchfield’s new album, Nature Speaks, which was written amidst the experiences of fatherhood and the entailing changing priorities that it brings. He adds: “There is always something to sacrifice in the present in order to create a future, and in many ways, I used music to parent myself through all the changes.”
