Leeann Skoda - “The Living Room”

Leeann Skoda found her way onto the blog just a month ago, but vowed to return with more music from her new EP, Living Room Sessions. Today, she makes good on that promise by revealing “The Living Room,” which is “a sparse and mysterious tale of sex, longing and voyeurism."

For those of you who missed our last Skoda post, she and her friends all gathered in the living room of Malachi DeLorenzo to record some of the most stripped-back and heartfelt arrangements that we’ve ever heard. “The Living Room” includes Skoda on lead vocals and rhythm guitar, accompanied by Dylan Rodrigue (background vocals, guitar) and Sie Sie Benhoff (background vocals).

After a few plucks from an acoustic guitar, the song begins with Skoda’s voice delicately delivering the dark tale of what appears to be one of lustful pursuit, though with a voice like hers, it all comes across as remarkably innocent. Vocal harmonies soon arrive and, just as we felt with “Little Star,” we find ourselves wishing we could have been present when this song was being tracked because, quite honestly, the recording makes you feel like you’re already in the room with them.

The arrangement is very sparse for the track’s duration, but as the guitar becomes played with increased determination, you’ll find that Skoda unleashes quite a bit of power from her voice, sending the song into a natural crescendo. And the vocal harmonies effectively widen the production in such a way that “The Living Room,” at times, sounds much larger than it actually should.

Living Room Sessions is available everywhere today and we encourage you to set aside the twelve, or so, minutes that it will allow you to escape from your life. Seriously, press play, close your eyes, and you’re suddenly in the same room:

You’re welcome.
