La Faute - “Sorry I Can't Stay” & “Let it Burn”

La Faute has just released her album, Blue Girl Nice Day. Over the past few months, she’s ended up on our blog with a number of tracks from the record, but here’s what I thought of “Sorry I Can't Stay” and “Let it Burn.”

Firstly, “Sorry I Can't Stay” beautifully articulates the feelings of love, loss, and the temporary nature of life. The track’s opening piano notes quickly establish a reflective mood, while the deep bass gives the minimal instrumentation a sense of depth and foundation. The song’s distorted synth solo helps to add an otherworldly feel and intensifies the overall hazy, melancholy vibe.

Sorry I Can't Stay” has intimate vocals that evoke a strong sense of regret and longing. The lyrics are relatable, especially when reflecting on personal loss. They mention saying goodbye too soon and leaving loved ones behind. The song beautifully encourages us to remember those who are not here, but also to treasure those who are still among us. The lyrics provide universal comfort for anyone who has faced loss or has thought about their own mortality.

Let it Burn” is another beautifully atmospheric song. This time, the feel is moodier. The song plays around with sound textures from the chugging of the opening acoustic guitar to the different percussive elements. Strings pad the production, adding a soft but serious feel to the underlying arrangement. What sounds like violin plucks, as well as a growling bass, all add to this almost stormy song. An intimate vocal style is again used on “Let it Burn.” The whole performance and arrangement combined encourage interpretation and introspection.

Overall, “SSorry I Can't Stay” and “Let it Burn” are both incredibly captivating listening experiences. Both songs effortlessly incorporate and experiment with textures and sounds to not only deepen the meaning of the lyrics, but to also allow the effortless and intimate vocal delivery of La Faute to shine.

These songs are taken from the album, Blue Girl Nice Day, which is now available everywhere:
