Stinkus- “I love you, trackstar”

From the USA, Stinkus returns to the blog with the indie pop rock banger, “I love you, trackstar.”

I love you, trackstar” roams across a gentle, pleasant, psychedelically tinged landscape. As we drift, we certainly enjoy the views. The song probably sits best in the indie rock genre but this is more of a multi-genre exploration. There’s a bit of Beck, a bit of the mellow, airy and soft electronica of The Chemical Brothers… and maybe a pinch of Caribou. Despite the plethora of stylistic influences that may be at work with Stinkus, he certainly melts them into new shapes to make it his own.

I love you, trackstar” flows from beginning to end coherently centred around rustic guitar tones, silky synth textures, glittering, twanging banjo like arpeggios and strutting, funky beats. Every element is warm, gorgeous and feels like a quantum leap into the wild blue yonder.

The vocal of Stinkus really steels the show on this number. It is introspective and rich in character. Yet also feels like a cathartic release especially over the chorus sections. The delivery rises to a harmonious, transportive release of joy. The repeating line of “I love you, trackstar” is truly infectious, making this a welcome blast of warmth as we enter the winter month in the northern hemisphere.

On the lyrical meaning, Stinkus elaborates: “The song is a love letter to myself. I am hyper self-critical and suicidal and this is both sides of me talking to myself. One side saying I'm never good enough and the other saying I'm tired and I love you for trying.”

Spaciously cool and satisfyingly anthemic, “I love you, trackstar” is title track taken from the new album by Stinkus out today. Connect with Stinkus: Instagram | Spotify
