Mindy Gledhill - “Livin’ the Dream”
USA-based singer-songwriter Mindy Gledhill has returned to us with “Livin’ the Dream.”
The song opens with some raw acoustic guitar, strummed straight into your earholes with nary a hint of production, save some compression and a pinch of reverb. The result is something that sounds as though it’s being performed right in front of you, which is typically one of our prerequisites when it comes to offerings from the sea of indie folk.
Gledhill’s vocal enters, as intimate and unscathed as the aforementioned guitar, fresh from her lungs to the microphone and into your soul. From just the first few syllables, it’s not at all difficult to comprehend why we’ve featured every tune she’s sent our way. Fans of The Civil Wars and Andrea von Kampen are sure to agree– this is exactly what we mean when we describe our stripped-back, vulnerable niche.
After the first refrain, the rest of the band arrives, with a vintage-hued rhythm section that lends some momentum and yet still allows “Livin’ the Dream” to occupy the blissful space that makes the song pose as a private performance. An additional guitar arrives with morsels of melody, with a multilayered country-tinged set of vocal harmonies truly adds the folksy cherry on top.
Complete with some genre-appropriate whistles, a truly flavorful bridge section, and a dynamic break to tie it all together, “Livin’ the Dream” will get you exactly where you need to be, even if you didn’t know you needed to be there. We hope that you love it as much as we do.
