Alexander Wolfe - “To Feel Love”
London-based singer-songwriter Alexander Wolfe has just released the melancholic indie rock track, “To Feel Love.” In many ways, this song reminds me of the masterful anthems from Doves. The musical textures and meaning of the song feel incredibly grown up and navigates the emotions of finding one’s self.
The music perfectly captures claustrophobia but also euphoria in what can only be described as an ethereal outpouring of emotion. Weaving, autumnal fingerpicked acoustic guitars, rippling electric guitars, thundersome drums and subtle effects coalesce, all building to panoramic, widescreen heights. The music is emotionally powerful and packs an authentic punch, which only encourages you to keep digging deeper to actively listen for more details in the production.
Cementing the cinematic mood are the powerful, distinct vocals of Alexander Wolfe. Atmospheric, haunting and sublimely honest, the rich delivery is supported by dreamy layers of harmonies that feel almost spiritual as they wrap around your ears.
On the track, Alexander Wolfe details the sombre, but also euphoric meaning of the lyrics: “To Feel Love is a song about escapism. Escaping from your problems and boredom by going out and getting wasted, a trap I have certainly fallen into myself. It’s about that endless search for love and excitement and how it can lead you astray.”
Dark, brooding, and intricately beautiful, “To Feel Love is taken from Alexander Wolfe’s forthcoming album EVERYTHINGLESSNESS, slated for release on January 16th. To celebrate the album’s launch, there will be a show held on the 24th January at Christchurch, St Leonards on Sea. Tickets are on sale here.
