Steph Clifford - “Cocoon”

From Grindrod, British Columbia, singer-songwriter Steph Clifford has just released the emotionally-charged sounds of “Cocoon,” the title track from her new EP.

For listeners who favor a keen sense of contemplation, do yourself a favor and press that play button– “Cocoon” will escort you through a myriad of inner truths along your introspective journey. The arrangement consists primarily of layered guitars, raw and warbling, with delicately reverberating notes filling in the cracks of the production.

A subdued rhythm section is soon deployed as a means to provide some momentum, but it is careful not to entirely consume the soundscape. Without a doubt, the highlight of “Cocoon” is Clifford’s vocal performance, which is so wonderfully intimate and authentic that, at times, it is as though she’s singing directly to her listener.

Cocoon” is padded with the ghostly artifacts of an organ, which enter and exit the sonic space as a means to create gaps for the verses. The second refrain includes a delightful vocal harmony, bound to have you adding the track to the playlists you’ve reserved for your daily bouts of soul-searching.

If “Cocoon” offers any indication as to the treasures found in the rest of the EP, we truly cannot wait to hear it in its entirety. You can now stream this folksy gem to your heart’s content, as well as connect with Steph Clifford online: Bandcamp | Spotify | Instagram | Website
