Slow Coast - “Not Alone”
California-based Slow Coast return with the extremely catchy “Not Alone.”
“Not Alone” carries that sound we have become pleasantly accustomed to from Slow Coast. This is another incredible banger that bristles with a back-to-basics, indie rock, millennium sense of coolness. So yes, if you are a fan of The Strokes, Interpol or even early Kings of Leon, this definitely a track you need to add to your playlist!
Clocking in at just over three minutes long, it’s all over before you can order your next beer or get your cigarette lit. But in that time, we a treated to delicious electric guitar tones that frenetically propel the composition forward with effortless cool. Switching from tight, razor thin staccato chops to full bodied, wide open, overdriven bursts in a heartbeat. All locked in tight by the metronomic drums and confident bass.
Cementing the sense of swagger are the exquisite vocals. The production is polished and the tones smooth offering a lush contrast to the music that is a little rough around the edges. This is not crooning, more Julian Casablancas without the distortion coupled with Paul Banks. The whole performance weaves with ease from the very first to last lyric.
On the track the band says: “Ever felt alone in a crowded room? This song aims to capture that exact feeling. It’s about watching the world move around you while you’re stuck in your head. It dives into the fear that you don’t belong, and the quiet hope that someone out there gets it.”
“Not Alone” will please all of the skinny-jean revivalists, as well as those who just love a good, old-fashion dose of indie rock. You have no choice but to press play, as this is definitely more joyful and intense than anything else you have heard so far this year!
