Ross Newhouse - “Glass/Flows”
From New York, indie artist Ross Newhouse has just revealed “Glass/Flows,” a glorious serving of electronically-infused bedroom/ lo-fi pop-rock.
The ethereal tones of keys get this one started, soon joined by some vibrantly strummed acoustic guitar and Newhouse’s calm, cool, and confident vocal performance. The vibe of “Glass/Flows“ is introspective with just the right amount of melancholy, finding a secure position in our niche for sounds that rest along this end of the pop spectrum, which is bound to appease fans of The 1975, Ryan Beatty, or Kygo.
Upon the completion of the first verse, a digital rhythm is deployed, providing “Glass/Flows” with the surreal sensation of being underwater, which makes sense when you consider that this track has been designed fully engulf its listener. The beat solidifies for the second verse, but the real treat rests in the hook, which has a delicious 1980s vibe that exquisitely drifts into the realm of Miami Vice– perfectly saturated in a sheen of nostalgia while also firmly planting its feet in modern music.
For some extra width, additional layers of auxiliary vocals rise to the surface as “Glass/Flows” reaches the peak of its crescendo. All of this eventually culminates in a stripped down, yet otherworldly conclusion that will leave you with no choice but to return for additional spins. This song is perfect for roadtrips in the rain and pairs perfectly with your morning coffee.
