Peter The Human Boy - “Nobody’s Bored Anymore”

Vienna-based singer-songwriter Peter B. Mathis, aka Peter The Human Boy, gives psychedelic pop a playful twist with “Nobody’s Bored Anymore.”
“Nobody’s Bored Anymore” is fun and sonically adventurous in all the right ways. It is definitely a psychedelic bop for sure. You can draw comparisons to Tame Impala’s Lonerism in the sublime textures of the electric guitars and bass… but this is a bit lazy and in no ways does this banger justice. The drums are not fidgety like a “Tomorrow Never Knows” pastiche. The music is definitely not mournful and there is a thoughtful restraint in the deployment of effects and panning. Peter The Human Boy is not trying to cram too many ideas into one composition either. No, “Nobody’s Bored Anymore” I would say is leaner, more propulsive and 100% more confident.
Sonically it bears more hallmarks of early 1970s pop. Early solo Paul McCartney definitely mixed with a stoned Todd Rundgren probably hits the mark closer. Especially when listening to the delightful backing vocal layers and slick transitions… And that end shift in the groove is simply heavenly. It is the type of change that would have The Chemical Brothers nodding with a smile.
That’s all before we get to the casual, airy vocal performance that has the distinct feeling it is happily beaming melodies at you rather than washing over you like a trippy haze. It lifts your mood like a sudden burst of sunlight. It has a childlike tunefulness, warmth and character that is nothing short of charming. When coupled with the playful, colourful lyrics... especially loving the “tech billionaires” refrain, it reminds me of Blokeacola in terms of style and execution.
On the track Peter The Human Boy adds: “Boredom is dying out. It’s being replaced by numbness. And that is giving pressing issues of our world and individual daily life the best cover to evolve further and further unregarded. Social media, algorithms and digital blueprints of human brains were the source of inspiration for this song.”
