Pet Snake - “Getting Older”

Liverpool-based singer-songwriter Evelyn Halls, aka Pet Snake, has just released the raw sounds of her new single, “Getting Older,” via Dance To The Radio.

Much akin to “Coffee,” the song that initially led us to fall in love with Halls’ sound, “Getting Older” maintains that aurally appeasing, time-tested gritty guitar. And as soon as you press play, you shall find it nestled atop a lo-fi rhythm, slowly churning the song to life. Subtle waves of synth swell in the distance, effectively bringing width to the sonic space as you inadvertently tap your feet to Pet Snake.

Halls’ layered vocal shortly arrives, running through a laundry list of things to which we all eventually succumb, yet instilling the comfort that comes along with acceptance. And while her lyrics seem to convey a more personal tale, there are, of course, lines that deeply resonate within our aging bodies, though it doesn’t hurt that her delivery is emotively spot on, filled with that authentic je ne sais quoi that simply cannot be rendered via digital manipulation.

The entire production seems to be washed in a warm distortion that provides a thick saturation, from top to bottom. And the subject matter within “Getting Older“ is something we all tend to avoid; however, that will not stop time from coming for each of us– we’re just glad to have Halls’ distinct craft to guide us along our path.
