néomí - “Trigger”
Upon the announcement of her UK tour, Surinamese/Dutch singer-songwriter Neomi Speelman, aka néomí, has just released the tender sounds of “Trigger.”
It’s no secret that we consistently vibe with néomí’s music, as we’ve ended up featuring every track she’s ever sent to over us. With “Trigger,” listeners are invited into a rich and raw canopy of finger-plucked acoustic guitar, with rising swells of an ethereal ambience, bound to effectively carry you far away from all of your earthly perils.
néomí’s vocal soon arrives, further imbuing the arrangement with an intimate and emotionally-charged sense of character. At times, néomí’s voice is so raw and natural that it is as though she is performing the song right in front of you, leaning into the depths of authentic folk music while still maintaining a distinct modern flavor.
Speaking about “Trigger,” néomí adds: “The song is so real and painful I don’t think it needs a lot of explaining. It’s about being deeply in love with someone you know it will not work with. You’ve never felt like you really want to hold on, but you know either way it’s going to hurt. Staying or leaving. Preparing your heart for the inevitable hurt and difficulties that come with that.”
“Trigger” is a vulnerable and introspective journey through the human condition and is now available everywhere you get your music. Connect with néomí here: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook. More music from néomí: “oh my darling“ “your girl” “garden” “someone new” “so I let you” “It’s Never Easy (Leaving Someone Behind)”
