Mr. Husband – “Is It Real?”

Maryland-based Mr. Husband make their debut on the blog with the radiant indie Americana track “Is It Real?

Is It Real?” is a song that seeks truth… something that feels increasingly hard to pin down in the modern world. Yet it does so in a way that feels evocative, breezy, and magnificently uplifting. Musically, I would describe this one as a power-ballad arena rock track with the soul of a Midwestern bar, somewhere between REO Speedwagon and Fleetwood Mac at their peak. It has all the pop hooks a radio-friendly banger needs, and it delivers it with complete confidence and conviction.

The track is built on a buoyant drumbeat that drives relentlessly forward, acting as a solid rock ‘n’ roll shakedown that makes it perfect for getting up to dance to… or cruising down the highway at high speed without a care. Above sits intricate layers of guitar and pedal steel. These shimmer, chime, and sparkle, while fluid pedal steel ties everything together with a mellow sense of nostalgia. As the song reaches its climax, the lead guitar ignites into an emotionally nuanced solo. This is a welcome addition as the guitar solo has become something of a lost art over the last thirty years.

The vocal delivers the big, melodic, emotionally direct and sentimental performance that the song needs. It rises like a cigarette lighter held high catching the wind. Pure, widescreen and sublimely anthemic. Open, sweeping, and effortlessly inviting, “Is It Real?” is taken from the forthcoming album Song for the Old World.
