Micah Felts - “Free”

Tulsa, OK-based singer-songwriter Micah Felts returns to the blog with the striking indie folk song “Free.” The track is coated in chilled vibes with a lush undercurrent of melancholy that will leave you wanting more.

Free” is built around a warm, acoustic rhythm guitar that mellowly fleshes out the song’s groove. It provides a wonderful, inviting, and contemplative texture, which is complemented by the sustained tones of the piano that thoughtfully pad the composition. Underneath, an unfussy bass line creates a solid foundation that brings weight and depth, whilst a slow forward momentum is advanced by the drums. The vibes are chilled, with an agreeable sense of moodiness.

The rich electric lead guitar on “Free” is a real highlight to hear. The sounds imbue a sense of melancholy with their wistful, soaring tones. Over key areas, they lift the song up, giving a sense of carefree, relaxed wonder. The vocal of Micah Felts is chilled, passionate, and sincere in tone. The inviting delivery is soothing and coated in a prolific sense of harmony, thanks to the carefully applied backing vocals.

The introspective, spiritual lyrics elegantly depict a story of feeling lost but gaining clarity, direction, and enlightenment, despite this turmoil.

Free” is a beautiful indie folk song filled with meditative textures and well written lyrics. The track demonstrates Micah Felts’ care and craft in writing indie folk songs that come from the heart.
