Matu - “Flee”

London-based Matu once again joins us on the blog with his fresh release, “Flee,” a song that explores the attempt of loving someone who is volatile.

This is some serious subject matter, but you’ll be pleased to know that it comes wrapped inside the softest of sounds. As we’ve mentioned before, Matu has a Damien Rice-ness about him that is able to bring beauty to darkest of topics, so when “Flee” begins with an acoustic guitar and his gentle vocal, it is quite the heavenly experience.

For the first minute, the track remains heartfelt and intimate, until some soft bass arrives, then the delicate notes from a piano. These additionally elements succeed in widening out the production, but they do not take away from the honest work that Matu has brought to the table. For its duration, “Flee” remains very raw and sparse, and the listener has no choice but to believe every single word.

If this is your first time hearing the music of Matu, you are in for quite the experience; however, if you’re no stranger to his sound, then “Flee” is one more reason to remain a fan.
