MAUGER - “A Mindless Move (Live at Boma)”

Belgium band MAUGER have just released a live version of “A Mindless Move (Live at Boma).” The song is an absolute beauty and truly shows what a class act these guys are.

Firstly, I do not usually review live songs, but this one is a stunner… and I’m in complete disbelief that this wasn’t recorded in a studio. The song starts with a slow drum groove that holds the song together. Bass gently pushes the arrangement forward, whilst mesmerizingly gorgeous clean guitar weaves melodic notes, altogether creating a gentle mood for the vocal to take centre stage.

Mellow tones from some keys are added, enhancing the dreamy mood of this song. The keys change to clean piano tones in distinct areas, giving the song a more reflective and emotional feel. As the song progresses toward its final crescendo, the piano and guitar weave around each other, creating a satisfying melodic groove. The drums add boomier tones, again enhancing the reflective atmosphere of this song and bringing more weight to the arrangement.

The vocal is delicate and light, floating in gentle tones over the music. Backing vocals harmonise and add a nice airy feel in key areas. “A Mindless Move” is a song MAUGER released on their latest album Shiny. This version is taken from a performance in front of a small audience. They loved the moment and the performance so much that they decided to release it. To be honest, I cannot fault their decision as this is a beauty.

“A Mindless Move (Live at Boma)” is sophisticated, gorgeous, and dreamy. The song demonstrates what a fantastic live act they are and should inspire you to start digging into their discography after its first play.
