Alejandro Lopes - “Alone With You”

If you’re not already listening to Alejandro Lopes, then you’re doing it wrong. Last month, we reviewed “I Can’t Read Your Mind,” from his upcoming EP, I Am Really Bad With Names. This month, we are spreading the word about his August 27th release, “Alone With You,” which is much moodier than the previous offering. In addition to showcasing some flashier guitar work, the song lends its listener a glimpse into the darkness that tends to reside inside the majority of us all, but also the hope that love can bring: According to Lopes, this track is “a metaphor about my years battling depression and anxiety disorder and how finding love opened a way out of the dark spot I was at that moment in my life.” He claims to have been greatly impacted by the alternative scene of the ‘90s, citing Pearl Jam and Oasis among his initial influences in finding passion through songwriting. And that is more clear with this cut than in “I Can’t Read Your Mind,” resulting in a substantially diverse sample of what is in store for us when the full EP drops.
