Monad - “Light in an Empty Room”

Tel Aviv-based Monad has just released “Light In An Empty Room.” The song is stunningly seductive and brimmed with great psychedelic sounds. Inspired by the Edward Hopper painting “Sun In An Empty Room,” the song similarly tries to capture sweeping elegance and progressive ideas.

Opening with lo-fi drums, the song confidently explodes into a warped and distorted soundscape. The fuzziness gives way to strong psychedelic tones that are comparable to Tame Impala. The hazy music is delightfully packed with panning drum fills, mellow pads, and phased vocal effects. As the song progresses, the trippy, distorted feel slowly returns, al the while properly glued together by the deep, warm bass line.

The breezy and light vocals have a lush, ethereal quality. The lyrics float gracefully over the instrumentation. Lyrically, “Light In An Empty Room” was born out of a writing exercise based on a visual work of Edward Hopper’s painting. The aim was to musically convey the solitary and introspective feelings shown in the artwork.

Monad adds: “something in it immediately deeply resonated with me, there’s an introspective quality to it; that painting is a direct influence for this song, which like the painting deals with feelings of otherness and isolation (on the inside and on the outside) in it’s own way.” “Light In An Empty Room” is mesmerizing, confident, and wonderfully experimental. This is a must listen for fans of psychedelic music.
