The tiny voice and big future of Lexie Carroll

If you’ve never heard of Lexie Carroll, that is likely going to change very soon– and not just because you’re reading this. At the age of seventeen, she has already released a successful EP and landed herself on multiple Spotify-curated playlists, such as New Music Friday, Fresh Finds, Our Generation, and Lost in the Woods, which, in and of itself, is quite an achievement.

With her latest track, “if i built my home from paper,” she offers listeners a slow and delicate, indie pop tune that sounds as though it would seamlessly fit into any movie ever made. While her voice is, at times, barely even a whisper, the imagery is emotional, stylized, and heartfelt, though you cannot help but wonder which mic they used to capture such a quiet vocal performance. Lexie claims to have written the song for her mother, though it more closely resembles a lullaby for a mother to sing to her child.

When the track was submitted for review last week, Lexie had just over 20k monthly listeners on Spotify. Today, as I write this, she is closing in on 60k, so I am getting the review out of the way before she’s no longer indie enough for the blog.
