John Witherspoon - “All My Venom”
Liverpool’s John Witherspoon returns to the blog with the melodically sweeping “All My Venom,” a surefooted, well rounded, emotionally deep indie rock record that explores how relationships can be turbulent, uncertain and filled with mixed emotions.
The music is bright and lush, pushed forward by a careful but decisive percussive groove. It has the sprawling autumnal notes of the Doves and wistful nostalgia of Noel Gallagher’s Council Skies in the widescreen guitar textures and subtle piano rhythms. The tone, however, is more cathartic, rather than the dominant melancholic vibes from these acts. With an incredibly tight mix, this is a song of outstanding natural beauty, organic and exquisitely wholesome.
The vocal is filled with cool balladeering and breezy singalong refrains. John Witherspoon infuses the performance with a windswept charm, a reflective sincerity that anchors the emotional turbulence of the lyrics. With some great close harmonies that overlap in an intricate but subtle fashion, it carries a clear current of The Everly Brothers.
“All My Venom” is the work of an artist stepping fully into his own voice. Confident, emotive and timeless. The track is taken from the album, One Of Them, which is out now. Connect with John Witherspoon: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook
