Bloody Tourist - “Goodbye 79”
Brighton-based indie-electronic duo Bloody Tourist return to the blog with “Goodbye 79,” a delightfully catchy and vibey slice of indie that features Tessa Rose Jackson.
“Goodbye 79“ begins with some deliciously vintage-imbued, jangly electric guitar being strummed over the top of a jittery, digitally-driven rhythm. The vocals enter, meticulously multi-tracked, instilling a quiet and nostalgic sense of character that immediately draws in the listener.
As the song progresses, a sweet, yet haunting vocal harmony from Jackson emerges, providing significant width to the bouncy production. Amidst these textures of voices, a seemingly endless supply of guitar riffs and ethereal artifacts weave themselves into the arrangement, giving you something new to hear with each listen.
Elements are added and removed to create a substantial dose of dynamic variation, while the relentless beat propels the track onward. This is the kind of song that was built for introspective roadtrips to nowhere, with Bloody Tourist adding that “It’s about endings that aren’t sad—just strange and beautiful. You’re not mourning something, you’re honouring it. There’s joy in moving on.”
We’ve ended up featuring every tune that Bloody Tourist has sent over to us, and because we are picky as all hell, that should be more than enough incentive to press play on “Goodbye 79,” now available everywhere. The track comes from the duo’s debut album, Love Was a Big Thing, due out later this year. Connect with Bloody Tourist here: Spotify | Instagram | TikTok | X
