Jason Piquette - “Chocolate Heart”

Florida-based singer-songwriter Jason Piquette delivers a perfect piece of art with the indie folk track, “Chocolate Heart.”

Chocolate Heart” has a sublime intimate charm that is emotionally resonant and atmospheric. It is a track that is both deeply personal but also universally relatable. The composition is sparse, with each element carefully placed to create a haunting, introspective mood.

Opening to fingerpicked acoustic guitar, the music immersively builds to strummed chords and percussion. Subtle, contemplative touches of strings are added along the way. Throughout, “Chocolate Heart” retains the feeling of it being performed right beside you, despite these embellishments. Similar to the magnetic performance by early Bon Iver or Elliott Smith.

Jason Piquette gives a wonderful, soulful, performance that is full of intuitive swells and fades that draws you into the story. With great use of phrasing and timbre, the vocal is as much a sonic instrument as the guitar, or drums that enter in the latter half of the song. It is a performance that cuts deep and is simply devastating.

On the track Jason Piquette adds: “I felt weird about releasing it because it’s a breakup song I wrote a long time ago when I was in a lot of pain but sometimes the most specific emotions can be the most universal… When I’ve played it for people it’s gotten some of the strongest reactions out of any of my songs. It builds in a really cool way and I’m so excited to share it.”

Chocolate Heart” is a track that underlines that the most personal confessions always strike the deepest chord. With this composition, Jason Piquette turns heartbreak into pure beauty. Connect with Jason Piquette: Spotify | Instagram | Facebook
