Jay Feelbender - “Disco Disco”

From Toronto, Canada, Jay Feelbender kicks open the door to the party with the alt pop-rock earworm, “Disco Disco.”

Disco Disco,” dubbed by Feelbender as a “celebration of now,” sounds like a classic dance-tinged alt-rock banger from the early noughties when bands like The Bravery, Arctic Monkeys and The Strokes were bubbling up into the mainstream. It struts with purpose and is dressed to kill, beckoning you to get lost in a classic four-on-the-floor beat and slinky bass line. It is the type of Mirrorball like rhythm that Blondie battered us with on Parallel Lines

Dancing across the groove are various layers that are simply a delight to listen to. The mysterious, hypnotic key lines that weave as if puling you into the shadows. Angular, razor-sharp guitar injects hooks like a laser beam whilst sparkling glassy chords ripple spaciously. The mix is also never cluttered. It is playful, tactile and full of energetic bounce.

Feelbender serves up a vocal that is so cool it is probably wearing sunglasses. It is magnetic yet detached as it shifts from conversational tones to infectious energy. Each word is delivered with attitude, purpose and a rock star pose.

On the track, Feelbender adds: “It’s about that night you never planned, that love that might burn out by sunrise, and the joy of not caring what comes next. I realised how much of my energy was being spent trying to be seen rather than truly feeling anything. That endless chase for fame, attention, and perfection can hollow out the joy in simply being here. I wanted it to feel a little messy, a little glitter-soaked, like dancing in a stranger’s kitchen at 2 a.m. when the world outside doesn’t exist.”

Disco Disco” is a pure shot of after-hours magic making it the perfect soundtrack to get the party dialed up to eleven. Connect with Jay Feelbender: Instagram | Facebook | Bandcamp | Spotify
