Australian alt-folk singer-songwriter Ella Ion arrives on the blog with “Mess In Your Eyes,” a mellifluous, loving hand that pats the back of its wounded listeners.

“Mess In Your Eyes” is one of those soft, dreamy tunes that toes the line between indie pop and indie folk. The inviting, lullaby-like nature of the arrangement washes over all who hear, inviting us into a gentle, vintage-tinged rhythm, with warm acoustic guitar chords and subdued keys.

But the real highlight here is the multilayered vocal performance from Ion. Her voice remains untainted by the gauntlet of modern production tactics and, instead, is delivered quite raw, steeped in natural talent. There is so much emotion coursing through its veins that, at times, it is as though she’s performing the track right in front of you.

As the refrain arrives, the rhythm picks up a bit- just enough to keep the listener fully engaged and immersed within the wondrous sound. Additional layers of auxiliary vocals find their place in the sonic landscape, but, for the most part, “Mess In Your Eyes” maintains a reasonably sparse existence as it journeys into your spirit.
