Portland-based indie folk artist Anna Tivel returns to the blog with “White Goose,” the latest single from her forthcoming LP, Animal Poem.

Once again, Tivel has hit the bullseye of our niche for authentic indie folk music. At the press of the play button, the raw sounds of acoustic guitar enter the sonic space, imbuing the sparse arrangement with a melancholic, yet nostalgic vibe that pulls the listener directly into Tivel’s world.

A softly pulsating rhythm finds its place within “White Goose,” ushering in the vocal performance. And this is when we were hooked– Tivel has been blessed with a voice destined to provide these intimate and vulnerable morsels of sound to the world. For this very reason, we find ourselves believing every word that she sings.

As the track progresses, the subtle notes from a piano and various percussion sounds make their way across the soundscape. Over key points, Tivel has deployed a remarkable vocal harmony that stretches the listening experience to the far reaches of the stereo spread. With a rather playful, nearly jazz-infused interlude, “White Goose” will give you everything you’ve been searching for in a folk performance.

Of her new record, Tivel adds: “Every album is a snapshot, a momentary study of the way a mind reaches for understanding. I can feel myself reaching in these songs, for whatever is right beyond my grasp. Mortality and connection. Suffering and meaning. People lead the narratives, come into orbit, spin away again – an exhausted mother at a freeway exit, an aging neighbor surrounded by a growing pile of newspapers, the unsung heroes of a midwest uprising, two lovers looking at the sky.”

Animal Poem was co-produced by Tivel and fellow Portland-based multi-instrumentalist Sam Weber. The LP will arrive on August 29 via Fluff & Gravy Records (Margo Cilker, Kassi Valazza). Connect with Anna Tivel here: Spotify | Soundcloud | YouTube | Bandcamp | Instagram | Facebook | Website
