Say Anise - “Hurry Honeypie”

In the spirit of the approaching Hallmark holiday, we could not pass up a song entitled “Hurry Honeypie.” This very sweet and tender offering from Say Anise is a smooth ride through everything that is heartfelt music. Drawing some influence from indie folk greats, such as Anais Mitchell and The Staves, and more eclectic artists, like Radiohead, “Hurry Honeypie” is a cinematic recording that relies more on atmosphere than cramming a bunch of instruments into a single song.

The opening acoustic guitar is very delicate, with a tone that you could sit and listen to all day. And when the vocals arrive, the song becomes the soundtrack to the most perfect of Sunday mornings– coffee in hand, nothing on the agenda, simply utilizing a few moments to ponder how great it feels to be alive. But the real gift from this song is its use of layered vocal harmonies, which, when done effectively, we simply cannot refuse. So once they fill your ears, at around one minute into this song, any contentment that you were feeling up until this point will be amplified by Say Anise’s glorious and boundless swells– as though the waves of her voice are guiding you home, wherever that may be.

The artist adds: “2022 was a big year of growth for me, both personally and musically. I found a new producer and recorded a bunch of my songs, and Hurry Honeypie is the first of this group of new releases. It was written almost exactly a year ago, at a time when I was feeling a bit fed up, feeling like everything (work, life) was a bit of a struggle, and the song is a sort of call to the universe to bring something new and good into my life.”
