Charlie & Margot - “Lonely”

The songwriting in “Lonely,” by Charlie & Margot, is simply classic rock n roll. It has a perfect mix of infectious electric guitar hooks and relatable lyrics. The guitar work is quite impressive, especially the howling tones that add a unique edge to the song. The guitars are never showing off, but they are extremely lush. The production is polished, and the use of reverb on the vocals gives the track a sense of spaciousness.

The chorus is nice and wide and is one of the many things in this song that will likely get stuck in your head after just one listen. It builds nicely from the verses and gives the song an old-fashioned epic feel. The arrangement of the song is well thought out, with a structure that keeps things interesting, from start to finish. The break that sounds almost like a demo take near the end just sits perfectly.

Lonely” is a well-crafted and highly enjoyable indie rock song that showcases what Charlie & Margot have to offer. It sets a high bar and makes me want to check out their upcoming debut album Joyride. This track is highly recommended.
