Los Vii – “Macchina”

Macchina,” from Los Vii, is a dreamy and leisurely track that seamlessly blends electronic and guitar elements. The opening electronic drum machine and dreamy guitar create a wave-like soundscape that sets the tone for the rest of the song. The vocal performance has Tame Impala vibes, but, unlike Kevin Parker, these guys can sing… There is also a late 1960s feel to the delivery in some sections. Just as you feel settled, Los Vii turn on the magic.

A short-spoken segment of an Italian poem over an organ and an increasingly reverberated snare bursts into something decidedly disco, creating a great groove and a psychedelic feel. The bass pushes this groove. The instrumental sounds are nicely flanged, adding to the song’s retro feel. Some of the synth choices sound very Pink Floyd/Jeff Wayne-esque. The song beautifully returns to the mood of the beginning. A little more guitar is used to fill out the space and show some progression. There is a cohesive and satisfying feeling listening to this experimental number. “Macchina” is a well-crafted and unique track and I am definitely looking forward to hearing more music from these guys.

The artist says: “Macchina is a commentary on the pain/pleasure of the human experience, and how AI/machines will never achieve this depth of feeling.”
