Hotel Hugo - “Redwood”
The band Hotel Hugo's third single, “Redwood,” is one you should definitely add to your “to listen to” list. Written at the start of the pandemic, the song reflects on a romantic trip to Northern California. The song explores the desire for escape and travel that many individuals experienced during the 2020 lockdown. The lyrics and music perfectly catch a sense of escapism and carefree spirit.
“Redwood” has a bouncy feel, thanks to the drums moving it forward. For the majority of the song, the guitar performance is relatively understated– mostly using chords to break up the beat... However, there is a charming little rolling guitar solo, which is a personal favourite of mine.
Beautiful background vocals do a great job of supporting the chorus passages. The vocal delivery is also excellent and catches the mood perfectly. This really exudes a nice, laid-back vibe and makes you long for the return of summer.
