Fairhazel - “Rhododendron”

In lieu of a bio, Fairhazel sent over a warning label with his new track, “Rhododendron.” While very descriptive and quite humorous, it was, of course, a pack of lies. We might post it below for you to read at your leisure, but first let us tell you all about this fantastic new track.

Fairhazel describes “Rhododendron” as many things– one of which is a “late night song,” which is precisely when we first heard it. However, we have also confirmed that it works in the morning, as your coffee perks, as well as once your cup runneth empty. The intro for this track is full of flavor, with what appears to be a bass as it delivers the thickest of melodies. The drums crackle like firewood, bursting through some sweet and tight vintage compression. Together, this rhythm section provides the ultimate vibe, sure to win the ears of any audiophile worth his or her salt.

The vocals soon roll in, accompanied by fantastic harmonies, in the midst of some production risks that we’ve not heard many songwriters courageous enough to take. There are quite a number of tastefully placed sound effects and if we didn’t know any better, we would say that this song is its own soundtrack– the kind of music that makes movies run through your head, providing the exact escape that good music should. Simply put, if you listen to this with your eyes closed, you just might transport yourself into the future. And once you hear this glorious f’ing hook, as it’s wishing you goodbye, you will suddenly realize that “Rhododendronshould have come with a warning label: you are going to fall in love with this thing.
