Summer Bedhead - “Black Hole”

Black Hole” is the new release by USA-based Summer Bedhead. The song is wonderfully dynamic and engaging, with great melancholic and atmospheric tones. The song begins with an easy-going beat that intensifies as fuzzy guitars and powerful drumming ignite like an explosion.

The song’s use of dramatic breaks is one of its strongest points. These quiet pauses let the bigger sections hit harder, building tension and releasing it throughout the song. The vocal delivery in “Black Hole” is excellent; the singer's voice is delicate and soft during the song’s calmer passages, but it becomes wild and passionate during the track’s louder, fuzzier segments. The dynamics and tones of the vocal, for me, are excellent.

The conflict between one’s inner and outside worlds is explored in the lyrics. There is a reference to the topic of masking inner turmoil and the fight to appear normal when truly feeling anything but. The richness of this theme further enhances the song’s already alluring tone.

Overall, “Black Hole” is a fantastic little firecracker of a song. It is memorable and has some really great hooks, but it is the vocal delivery that is the standout performance .
