Hayley Reardon - “Enough Is Everything”

Hayley Reardon has just released Changes, a collection of six heartfelt folk tunes that are guaranteed to burrow their way into your soul. Reardon has been on our radar for quite some time– just a few short months ago, we featured her duet with Ross Newhouse, and she has been known to pop up on a number of Spotify’s editorial playlists, such as Fresh Folk, Folk Pop, Morning Coffee, and Today’s Singer/Songwriters. In fact, we would be very surprised if you have not already had her music in your ears at some point, but, if not, you are in for a folksy treat with “Enough Is Everything.”

This track is the gentle closer on Reardon’s new EP and it begins with some perfectly plucked acoustic guitar, just as we’ve come to know and love from this predominantly raw and stripped-back genre. And if you’ve ever read a single page of our blog, especially when it comes to indie folk, you will already know that we are huge fans of music that sounds as though it is being performed for you in whatever room you might be listening. We are pleased to inform you that this is the case with “Enough Is Everything,” as you will find no annoying effects or production tricks– just the raw guitar sounds from a microphone or two.

Of course, it is extremely rare for song to be able to hold our interest when it is so sparsely recorded, but once you hear Reardon’s vocal, you will understand why we’ve made an exception. She has a voice that perfectly suits this style of music and it is distinct enough for anyone to know that it’s a Hayley Reardon song as soon as she begins delivering the lyrics. Her storytelling will immediately mesmerize all who are lucky enough to hear it, and she has a way of feeding your ears every syllable as though it’s the only truth left in the world. A highlight for us, of course, is the way that Reardon can finish a word with a whisper, yet still, somehow, remain completely in key.

With songs like “Enough Is Everything,” it is not at all difficult to imagine Reardon performing it anywhere, from a coffeehouse or open mic night, to an arena filled with fans holding their breath in order to absorb every last note. This is one for those quiet drives down the road of introspection, or as part of the soundtrack to finding your true self. About the new EP, Reardon adds: “For me, this new collection of songs represents a sense of grounding and coming home to myself after a long journey of self-discovery… I’ve gained many new pieces, experiences in life and music, friendships, appreciation of cultures, and memorable moments along the way, while coming into my own as a woman during a complicated time on earth.”
