Ross Newhouse - “Groundhog Day” (ft. Hayley Reardon)

Just in time for the changing seasons, Ross Newhouse is here with “Groundhog Day,” featuring a lovely duet by Hayley Reardon.

Groundhog Day” is a very mellow ride, initially spending some time in an atmosphere filled only with a solo acoustic guitar and Newhouse’s soft tenor handling the majority of the first verse on his own. Reardon’s voice shortly joins with a quick double on the pre-chorus, before offering a very sweet harmony on the refrain. The track takes off at about the minute-and-a-half mark, adding bass and percussion, plus some synth pads that really thicken up the background. Their voices remain together for the duration of the song and compliment each other perfectly. The listener has no reason to believe that the two are not in the same room together, sharing the same microphone– which is ironic, since Newhouse and Reardon recorded and produced the entire song via Zoom!

“Groundhog Day” is the perfect soundtrack to go along with those cold mornings where the only reason to get out of bed is a hot beverage. It’s a very lovely recording that does not attempt to hide its rawness, ultimately resulting in a very intimate listening experience. Give it a go:
